There's only a slither of hope right now that the GTA 6 release date will be announced in the coming months by Rockstar Games, who look solidly committed to Grand Theft AutoĀ V. And while thatā€™s good news for fans of GTA Online, it does suggest that PS4 and Xbox One may miss out on the future launch from Rockstar Games. Many analysts believe that the GTA 6 launch will fall during 2021, an idea that has been building traction over recent months. But that hasn't stopped reports springing up online suggesting all kinds of things regarding the future of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

But while these remain unverifiable, Rockstarā€™s parent company Take-Two Interactive has provided an update on its plans for 2020.

And they donā€™t sound like they include slowing down on GTA Online content, or launching a massive new game on current-gen consoles.

This happened during an investors call meeting for the company, with questions asked about plans for 2020, including new games being launched.

As quoted by Motley Fool, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked whether the world could expect a new AAA game in 2020, as Take-Two aspires to do this every year.

His response did not reference the Grand Theft Auto franchise directly but did suggest that TT2 could end up missing that target during some years.

Zelnick told the meeting: ā€œSo as we always do, you're going to hear our initial outlook for fiscal '21 in May, and our labels, of course, always make our product releases.

ā€œWe have set our strategy, as you correctly pointed out, is to have a strong frontline release schedule, both iterations from beloved franchises

ā€œWe have 11 franchises that have sold in at least 5 million units within one release as well as new intellectual property, and we are working on the most robust pipeline in our history. So we're amazingly excited about it.

ā€œThat said, we haven't always been able to achieve our goal of having a strong frontline release schedule in every year, even in the recent past.

ā€œWhat has been great, though, is we've now built a company that has these very strong underpinnings of catalogue titles and ongoing titles that live on in the hearts and minds of our consumers, generating engagement and generating net bookings and profits.

ā€œSo right now, we have titles like Grand Theft Online, Red Dead Online, all the Social Point titles, and there are 5 that are successfully in market, NBA 2K Online in China, WWE Supercard, which has been downloaded more than 20 million times, and the list goes on.

ā€œAnd in this past quarter, for example, catalogue sales represented about 40% of our net bookings.

ā€œSo we now have a company that season in and season out, we feel confident can generate plenty of net bookings, can engage with consumers and can generate a great deal of profitability.

ā€œAnd of course, at the same time, we'll build our business with those frontline new releases. Given that we're a company that depends on our creative teams to make as close to perfect products as possible, we have to be willing to live with the vagaries of product deliveries.

ā€œAnd that means, sometimes, we will have thin frontline years. But even in those frontline years, we've been able to deliver really great financial results.ā€

But while there wasnā€™t much to suggest of anything being shared very soon, there were hints that some kind of news from Take-Two would be coming in 2020.

Again, without reference being made to GTA 6, an analyst asked if guidance could be shared on how many AAA console games are currently in development and how many of those might be released in the next one to three years.
